Details of payment:  Charity for mosque construction

A new mosque is being built on Karl Marx Street in the central district of the city of Izhevsk. The construction works began in August 2003. The mosqueis being restored instead of the historical one, which was dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Victory in the 1812 Patriotic War but in the 30s of the 20th century it was demolished during the expansion of the Izhevsk Metallurgical Plant.

The initiators of the project were many Muslims who were spoken on behalf of the Ikhlas Charitable Foundation and the Muslim Affairs Religious Board of the Udmurt Republic (URMARB).  

The construction of the mosque has really become acommunity project. The tens of thousands of people (including retired) are contributing into the project. Some Muslim women give for a good and worthy cause not only money but also their jewellery and ornaments. Several Muslim families have applied to accept their legacy donations obtained from selling their houses and apartments to build the mosque.

Some businesses make charitable contributions and provide materials, transport and service. Not only Muslims contribute to the project. Among contributors there are some managers and employees who belong to Christianity or adhere to other faiths.

The estimated construction costis 58 mln rbl (at 2003 values).

The total rentable area is 2000sq m (including a dining room – 500 sq m and a classroom – 500sq m).
